Book Clubs

I think you’d agree that finding your life’s work is an excellent book club topic! PASSION AT WORK can provide groups of any sort a copious serving of intellectual stimulation, philosophical banter, and perhaps some fascinating insights as to why the group formed in the first place; you may share some very similar releases and passions!

And with few exceptions, who else would you want beside you than your trusty book club comrades-in-arms (potential Advisory Board members?) as you delve into the recesses of your reality? Going through The Five Ps with the implicit support and candor of good friends can also make the process even that much more enjoyable and most importantly, valuable to you and your friends.

Should you choose to use PASSION AT WORK for your club’s next gathering and need some help organizing, figuring out discussion topics, or planning the menu, please click on the links below for specific suggestions.

Organizing Topics for Discussion Menu Selections

First off, you'll need a host to run the meeting (or meetings) and facilitate discussion, laughter, questioning and the fun of exploring what you really want out of life and how you are going to get there. You may want to get ambitious and try to work through as much of the Five Ps as you can in one gathering, or you may want to split the process up into more manageable bites. If nothing else, you should try to cover the first three Ps together, as they provide the necessary data you will need to develop your niche.

You may want to have each reader briefly walk the group through their deliverables, be open for comments, and then reflect on what they learned from the process. Alternatively, you might want to choose someone (shortest straw?) or solicit for volunteers and then you can support him or her in quickly going through whatever parts of the process you'd like. In this case, having one of those large sticky pads you on an easel or you can stick to a wall can be helpful.

If you have any other tips or comments on running a club event, please let us know! Also, if you live in a city where a Deputy of The Passion Posse happens to live and would like an in-person session, please don't hesitate to ask.

Following are some favorite discussion topics coming out of the book we have been able to gather:

  • Do you agree with the author's contention that it is all life and the notion of balance is patently absurd?
  • Has the book changed your view of life and the power of X Factors? If so, how and will this impact how you allocate your time?
  • How do you define “wealth” and “success”? Were you able to generate one or two non-financial metrics of success and if so, what are they?
  • To what extent are your long-term experience liabilities from your Personal Balance Sheet financial or work-related? Does this run with or against how you are spending your time?
  • What sort of insights, if any, did the Five Ps reveal to you?
  • What sort of expectations might you need to deal with?
  • Has the book changed the way you view your personal finances?
